Fluoride and Its Many Uses
So we've all been to the dentist before. After we got our cleaning and stuff they apply this paste on the end of a cotton swab, right? We all know it as Fluoride. It turns out that fluoride is a fluorine ion. (An ion is when the atom has an electric charge either positive or negative.) So Fluorine ions are deposited as new tooth material is formed, making it strong and resistant to decay! Not only that, fluorine can be added to tap water to essentially "purify" the water by combining with the unwanted particles. Studies show that by doing this it might improve the dental health of the population. So now we can keep those pearly whites for longer.
Metal Purification!?
Fluorine isn't all in the dental region. Fluorine is used in metal purification because it combines with all the unwanted parts around the metal. This fusing of fluorine and the unwanted parts dissolves the unwanted parts, resulting in a purified metal/jewel!
